How to keep one’s mind in the present

Present is due to the consequences of past,
Future is due to the consequences of present.
So every moment of the present is important to make our life better

So let’s see how to keep our mind in the present.

When we start doing any activity cont. we will become better in it with time.

The simplest way to bring our mind to present is to observe our breath, just the normal and the natural breath.
Sometimes our breath is so feeble, sometimes deep, sometimes fast etc…

Why breathe when we have so many things to observe. Because this is the only activity our body does all the times, this one we do it consciously i.e. while we are awake or asleep.

Our rate of breathing varies with our body condition, E.g. When we are angry the rate is high and shallow, when we are calm rate is low and breath is deep. So the breath changes according to the body and mind conditions.

Then being mindful in whatever activity you perform, when your mind deviates observe your breath for some time and get back to your work. When you feel you are losing control take your concentration to your breath. Likewise, continuous efforts will help you to be aware of your activities.

The more you try to concentrate on natural breath the more the mind gets deviated. More the times it gets deviated, more the times you put efforts to bring the mind to the present. Don’t get agitated, this helps you to develop patience, every time you bring your mind to your breath or current work you keep forgiving yourself and start accepting the natural tendency of our mind is to get deviated and roll either in the past or the future.

Every time you bring back your mind back to respiration, you realize the reality; understand the nature of your mind. The best way to understand the truth is by experiencing it directly. This activity seems simple till you put it in practice. The amount of benefits and learning’s from this is innumerable.

To get into some more details the nature and the rate of breath is not the same in all conditions of our body. When we keep our breath under check and awareness we also improve ourselves in keeping our emotions under check. We start gaining control over our self.

How many times we would have regretted for losing temper, our bad activities, felt ashamed, disgusted about ourselves for the lack of control.

                THOUGH ONE MAY CONQUER A THOUSAND TIMES A THOUSAND BATTLE;
YET HE INDEED IS THE NOBLEST VICTOR WHO CONQUERS HIMSELF.

How many times we would have fallen in the traps of agitation and anger. When we say – my boss is not listening to my request, my partner is not understanding; my kids are not obeying , my colleague is not co-operating; my parents are not understanding; my friends are not helping and this list keeps going and never ends !!! Isn’t it??

But when you start understanding your mind, how many of us really think?
Am I listening to my own request of my body and mind? Do I understand myself? Am I obeying my own rules? Am supporting this body and mind?
Am I helping myself in a right way???  THINK J

Let’s see the importance of “ I “in my next article
